Tip #9: Conduct a balanced job search

Don’t spend all of your time at your computer, completing applications and submitting resumes. It is important to diversify your job search and try different things.

Don’t be afraid to make some mistakes along the way. If what you are doing is not producing results, then change what you are doing!

Not sure where to start? Consider these options:

  • Join a job club or group like the RochesterWorks! Job Network, The August Group or a professional organization in your field or industry. Churches and other local organizations sometimes also offer these services. They are a great way to set goals and hold yourself accountable.
  • Connect with old co-workers on social media sites like LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter. But remember to be careful about the information and photos you post!
  • Volunteer or pursue temp work. Gain experience, keep your skills sharp and potentially get your foot in the door.
