Each of these graduates faced struggles common to many job seekers. Deborah struggled with staying positive, Beth struggled with networking, and Chris struggled with interviews, but none of them struggled alone. They came to RochesterWorks! for help and participated in one of our 5-day, intensive programs designed to help you get a job faster.

What tips do you have for other job seekers?
Take good care of yourself. Rest and exercise and have a plan. Work on getting employment as if it was a job.

How did RochesterWorks! help you in your job search?
They helped me update my resume, set up a LinkedIn profile, network with other people, create a business card for myself, work on my cover letter, work on my sales pitch for myself… helped with different job search areas, coaches helped with leads.
What was the biggest challenge you faced while being unemployed?
Getting out there to talk to people and being patient waiting for responses.
What was the most difficult part of your job search prior to taking 5 Steps to Rapid Employment and how did the program help you to overcome it?
Making sure I was sending out the right information about myself in my cover letter and resume. Completing multiple job applications in different formats. . . It made me sign up for resume writing class. It made me create a business card with a statement about myself on it. It made me come up with a strategy for my job search.
How did you benefit from the 5 Steps Program?
Learned what I was doing right, what I was doing wrong, and how to fix it. Great peer support. Great coach support.
Describe the 5 Steps Program in Your Own Words.
It’s a program to help you focus your job search and efforts so that you land a job faster. It gives you strategies for what you need to do, what your areas you need to work on are, and how to be creative in your approach to talking with people and posting for jobs. It helps you present yourself as the best candidate for the job you are pursuing.
What tips do you have for other job seekers?
Enroll in 5 Steps – helped immensely with coming up with a strategy and new ideas for job hunt. Work with RochesterWorks! to redo your resume. Go to Job Strategy Group every week. Get your LinkedIn profile done. Go to the workshops and network with people. Join The August Group for exposure to a different group of people and methods of job searching.

They helped me in multiple ways to search companies who visited looking for resources – the staff was very helpful.
What was the biggest challenge you faced while being unemployed?
Few were hiring and I was out of practice to interview correctly.
What was the most difficult part of your job search prior to taking 5 Steps to Rapid Employment and how did the program help you to overcome it?
The internet applications seemed to go into a black hole with no responses – it was very depressing. 5 Steps helped me to revisit the protean attitude. It’s what all current workforce applicants need to understand.
