The Center for Youth Helps RCSD Graduate Obtain Employment

Phoenix is 18 years old and despite facing many personal obstacles, he graduated from John Marshall High School in June of 2014. The road to graduation was not an easy one for him, however, he overcame his obstacles and became a Rochester City School graduate where the graduation rate in 2014 was only 51%.

Phoenix connected with the Learn to Earn Program at the Center for Youth. Since then he has earned a ServSafe Credential (online food safety training), completed a Job Readiness Workshop series that included employment and retention training, a mock interview, creating an employment portfolio, and obtaining interview attire. Phoenix obtained employment at Wegmans in July of 2015 and has retained his employment at the Lyell location in the Prepared Foods Department.

With continued support from the Navigator at the Center for Youth, he enrolled at MCC and is currently attending there full-time. In addition, he has learned to open his first bank account and how to balance work, school and personal responsibilities.

Phoenix has proven that regardless of what you are going through, you can still achieve your employment and educational goals through hard work and determination.
