Greece Central School District Helps Teen Mom Pursue Education

Balancing Roles

Heather is her own best example of her goals to never give up and to keep looking forward.

Enrolled in the Gateways Program at Greece Central School District in December of 2014 while pregnant, Heather studied for the TASC exam in Greece’s High School Equivalency class.

Motivated, goal oriented, and responsible, Heather fulfilled all of the requirements to be referred to the March 2015 TASC exam. She attended classes, worked with the Navigators in career zone, brushed up her resume, and completed a job search. And, while waiting for her test results, she also took the ServSafe Food Handler online course and passed the exam.

Heather passed the TASC and received her High School Equivalency Diploma and, in July, celebrated the birth of her daughter.

She revisited her job search after her maternity leave and found employment at Taco Bell, but her story does not end there.

Her aspirations include attending Monroe Community College in January 2016 and pursuing a Human Services degree. Heather’s ambition and drive are testament to the will of her spirit and her commitment to seeking the best life has to offer her and her child.
